Classes & Courses

I will be running a variety of intro sessions, classes and some short demonstration-style classes that will focus on specific weaving skills, such as warping, choosing yarns and project design. See below for details of short classes and multi-week courses currently available.

Beginner Weaving Course

Learn to weave with nine weeks of hands-on, project-based classes – using primarily rigid heddle looms but exploring a range of weaving styles and techniques. No prior weaving experience is required and all equipment and supplies are included. You are of course welcome to bring along your own loom if you already have one – add a comment to your booking request and we can discuss.

The classes run for 3 hours on a weekday evening.

Skills and techniques covered will include:

  • Weaving terminology and basic theory;
  • Tabby, twill, and tapestry;
  • How to read patterns and drafts;
  • Direct and Indirect warping;
  • Setting up your loom;
  • Combining colours and creating texture;
  • Using different materials for different purposes e.g. wool vs cotton;
  • Finishing techniques;
  • How to use your woven fabric.

There will be a selection of wool, alpaca and cotton yarns. If you are unable to use wool/alpaca please advise in your booking request so that we can discuss alternatives.

  • BYO water bottle and a mug (hydration & tea breaks are important!)

Taster Session

Two Hours – Introductory class

I will have Ashford looms in a variety of sizes and models, and different yarns on hand to play with but you are also welcome to BYO yarn if you have something you want to try. Any samples or swatches you weave can be taken home for future reference and/or keepsakes.

This session goes for two hours, and is tailored to what students want to know and learn – bring your questions and I will be happy to help!

Where & When:

Currently there are no upcoming sessions open, however if you would like to arrange a Taster Session please contact me and we can discuss times and locations that suit.

Prices will depend on number of participants, venue costs and travel time.
